community, Awka North Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra state, was
agog weekend as a former Deputy Chief Registrar, Anambra State Customary
Court of Appeal, Mr Godian Afah emerged its President-General.
Others elected executive include Vice-President General, Mr Samson
Ojor; Secretary-General, Mr Louis Odilo; Assistant Secretary, Chioke
Nelson and Financial Secretary, Solomon Okoye.
The
rest are Treasurer, Bartholomew Eke; PRO, Sunday Ude while Joseph
Onwurah Ambros Anigbogu and Paul Okere were elected as provosts.
The
new president-general, who once served as Head of the Probate, Anambra
State judiciary, pledged to restore peace in the community by working in
partnership with president generals of other communities and the
traditional institution.
He also said he would co-operate with other relevant stakeholders in the community to achieve optimal results.
Afah,
then, expressed his gratitude to Gov. Willie Obiano for his leadership
qualities, especially in every community, that paved the way for Ugbenu
Community to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Afah commended his community for the support and mandate extended to him by the entire Ugbenu community.
He
pledged to do everything within his powers not to disappoint them,
noting, ``this is a clarion call for service to my community’’.
The
president-general added that he would carry every indigene of the
community along to achieve the task of maintaining peace in the
community.
``I will
not to discriminate against anyone in the performance of his official
duties, but I will not hesitate to expose corruption in the discharge of
my duties,” Afar vowed.
An observer from Anambra State Government House, Mr Paul Aniereobi, thanked the community for the free and fair election.
He urged them to support the new leaders in order to make the community better than it was in the past.
