www.odogwublog.com reports that in readiness for any outbreak of Lassa Fever , the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, Anambra state this afternoon held an awareness and sensitization workshop for the staffers of the health institution on presentation, distribution and prevention of Lassa fever.
The sensitization workshop which was put together by NAUTH Lassa fever committee took place at the hospital quadrangle.
Prof Anthony Igwegbe, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH in his opening remark said it is necessary to carry out an overview of the Lassa fever epidemics and as well get intimated with preventive measures.
He said the need for the sensitization workshop for health workers of the Institution has become imperative because health service provider are more at risk of getting invected with the killer disease.
Prof Igwegbe harped on the medical personnels of the institution to imbibe the attitude of making effective use of the personal prevention equipment provided by the hospital and not abandoning the patients which according to him makes such health worker liable.
The NAUTH boss stressed the need for people to adequately cover their grains to prevent Lassa carrying rats from getting asses to the food stuffs.
He particularly urged the participants to make good use of the information and knowledge garnered during the workshop noting that the whole exercise would be useless if not put into practice.
As part of management's effort toward adequate preparation to battle Lassa fever should it occur in Nnewi and environs, the CMD said the hospital has procured over one hundred Non-Contact Infrared thermometer and other kits and that arrangement has been concluded to some staffers to Federal Medical Center, Irrua, Edo state for further training.
Dr Chioma Ajako and other eminent scholars presented papers on incidence, distribution and prevention of Lassa fever which is wrecking havoc across the country.
