THE POWER OF BOYCOTT  CHRISTIAN ROWLAND ANALYSIS... 

Christian Rowland writing for ODOGWU MEDIA... Christian Rowland a well known analyst called the the best analyst from Anambra state has come up with another strong analysis on the power of boycott.

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks sank wearily to her seat on the the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She was sitting in the middle of the bus. By law African Americans were supposed to sit in the back. They could sit in the middle section only if the seats were not needed for white people.

As the bus filled up, Rosa Parks was asked to give up her seat. She refused. The bus driver called the police, and she was taken to jail. By her action Rosa Parks had challenged the practice of segregation.

When Martin Luther King Jr., a young minister in Montgomery heard what happened. He called a meeting in his Church, at the meeting Martin Luther King Jr. and others decided to let the bus company to know how they felt. 

The bus company owners depended on the money spent by African Americans to run the company.

''Don't take the bus on Monday'' was the statement passed from person to person. A bus boycott began.

Martin Luther King Jr. led this protest. For 381 days African Americans in Montgomery boycotted the buses. That is, for 1 year and 15 days they remained resolute.

Often, they did so with great hardship to themselves. At last the bus company agreed that African Americans could sit where they wanted. African Americans learned that by working together they can bring about change peacefully.

I am sure many of us here know the story of Rosa Parks, I only wrote the story to remind us that power really belongs to the people. Don't underestimate the power of a boycott. It is a vital and result oriented tool in changing the status quo. 

There are many kinds of boycott, among them is election boycott. This kind of boycott is even less strenuous, you don't need to trek to work for 381 days like the African Americans.

All you need to do is just SIT AT HOME. If truly you are fed up with the present system, just test this strategy and see what happens. It is a litmus test, a mock referendum, a non violent means of bringing about a desired change.

No man is by nature the property of another man, you have a right to choose what you do and don't do. God bless lovers of freedom everywhere they are.

November 18 is a date with history, boycott is the word, sit at home is the message.
