www.odogwublog.com reports that the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Stuart Symington has said that the whole of Africa would be distabilised if Nigeria is engulfed in crisis.
Ambassador Symington who stated this Monday in Umuahia , the Abia State capital during a courtesy visit to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, said anything capable of igniting cricis in the largest black nation should be avoided as that could spell doom to the entire continent.
He said that the peace, security and prosperity of Nigeria and her citizens were of critical importance to the US, hence his country's efforts in promoting harmony among Nigerians states.
" If Nigeria is better, Africa shall be better", he said, adding that the uniqueness of Nigeria is embedded in its diversity.
The US envoy who said Nigeria was highly endowed with human and material resources enjoined the various nationalities in the country to seek peace and unity of the country, promote justice and respect human rights.
The Ambassador who was accompanied on the visit by his Political Adviser, Mirna Torres and other top Embassy officials, said that the US had strong ties with Nigeria.
He said he was in Abia because every state in Nigeria " is important to US government and its people".
Symington said the US would continue to promote things that would guarantee the peace, stability and welfare of Nigeria and her citizens.
He, therefore, enjoined Nigerians to cherish the beauty of the country and collectively promote its harmony.
" Every Nigeria should appreciate the beauty of Nigeria before that beauty is gone", he advised.
Responding, Gov. Ikpeazu thanked the US Ambassador for the visit and urged him to explore the numerous investment opportunities in Abia with a view to encouraging direct investments by US citizens and firms.
The Governor said the state had dedicated 9,000 hectares of land for the development of industrial city in Aba, and solicited foreign direct investment particularly from the US.
Ikpeazu said the state was in search of 500 companies that would take advantage of the facilities and other basic infrastructure that would be made available in the industrial cluster.
He said Abia parades the largest population of " the most skilled labour and workforce" in Nigeria, hinting that 250, 000 artisans are involved in shoe and leather work production in Aba alone.
The Governor also appealed to the US Government to put a stamp of recognition to made- in Abia products so they could be marketed in the US without qualms.
Ikpeazu however noted with delight that his advocacy for Abians in the US to invest at home had started yielding fruits especially in the health sector.
