reports that Anambra State Government has announced its plans to set up a National
burial committee to oversee and coordinate activities to give the deceased
former Vice-president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, a befitting burial.
Governor Willie Obiano announced this when he paid a
condolence visit to the family of the former Vice-president at his country
home, Ezioko village, Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area.
The governor, accompanied on the visit by his wife, Chief
Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, was received by the junior brother of the late elder
statesman and traditional ruler of Oko, Igwe Laz Ekwueme.
Addressing newsmen after he gave his condolences to the
family, Governor Obiano revealed that due to the personality of the deceased,
the Committee will draw members from the five South-Eastern states and beyond.
According to him, the committee will be charged with the
responsibility of planning for the state on how to give the late Dr Ekwueme a
befitting burial, whether or not the Federal Government provides assistance.
The Governor described the late elder statesman as a father,
whom he shared very intimate relationship with, describing his demise as a
great loss to the state and the country.
