UNICEF Partner with Anambra to Improve PHCs

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has decided to partner with the Anambra State government through the Anambra State Primary Health Care development Agency (ASPHCDA) to provide resources for improved health care delivery in the state.
Speaking recently during a training programme on minimum services for the state at Awka, the facilitator of the state programme, a UNICEF Health consultant, Dr. Ifeyinwa Anyayo said that UNICEF has set up a machinery in motion to provide human resources, health infrastructure and quality service development in Anambra State.
“This package has been put together by UNICEF and its aim is to improve the delivery services of Primary Health Care centers (PHCs) in the 21 local government Area of Anambra State. This project has been existing at the national level. The world body has decided to replicate it to the State to reach out to a larger population. UNICEF intends to provide human resources, Health infrastructure and improved health services which would lead to reduction in the mortality and morbidity rate among pregnant women as well as child hood killer diseases in the state’’, she said.
Dr Anayo further urged the health authorities to develop a document that would serve as a reference document for Anambra State concerning the services of the PHCs delivery system.
Earlier in his address, the commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike called on philanthropist and other donor agencies who wish to equip or renovate the PHCs in the state to identify with the document to be produced after the training, adding that the minimum service package (MSP) would aid the state government to have minimum standard for PHC facilities and Health post as well as the personnel and functions of both.
Moreover/ the executive Secretary of (ASPHCDA) Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu explained that the agency had outlined 10 pillars of operation to be implemented by the state to ensure that PHC delivery in Anambra was one of the best in the country according to the heart desire of His Excellency, Governor Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano of Anambra State.
