Christian Rowland writing for ODOGWU MEDIA...From Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Cynthia Igbokwe and Odinaka Ezeoka, Awka People's Democratic party (PDP) yesterday presented the daughter of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme as the running mate of its candidate, Oseloka Obaze in the 2017 Governorship election.
Ekwueme's daughter is a Mrs Chidi Alexandra Onyemelukwe(Nnee Ekwueme) , a lawyer and former Presidential Adviser.

Presenting him to the party,  the secretary of the Anambra state caretaker committee of PDP,  Iyom Josephine Anini said that the decision of the party to bring out Mr Oseloka Obaze was a collective one and tasked all the PDP members who moved to APGA to come back now and build PDP.

She Claimed that all APGA members are PDPs,that it time for all hands to be on deck,  stressing that the Anambra election is to test the strength of PDP after its reorganization.

The PDP candidate,  Mr Oseloka Obaze introduced his deputy as his family childhood friend and not just anybody but a former Special Adviser to the former president of the federal republic of Nigeria on a small and medium  scale Enterprise (SME) .

Obaze said: "in compliance with provisions of Section 187(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) I, Oseloka Henry Obaze, after about three weeks of painstaking consultations with my family, the PDP hierarchy (both National and State) Stakeholders in Anambra and beyond, and the leadership of the Anglican Communion, wish to present formally to Ndi Anambra in particular and Nigeria in general, Lady Chidi Alexandra Onyemelukwe, my running mate for the November 18th 2017 Anambra State Gubernatorial election.

She was selected from a shortlist of very eminently qualified PDP faithfuls.
"In accordance to the Constitution and Electoral Guidelines of our great party, as well as the INEC Guidelines, Lady Chidi Onyemelukwe's candidature along with mine, has been duly submitted to INEC, through the National Caretaker Committee (NCC).

"The association between Lady Chidi's family and mine goes a long way back; and to my earliest childhood memories. More importantly, Lady Chidi comes to this state and national assignment with rich personal accomplishments, impeccable credentials and high pedigree.  A learned person, she is a Lady of the Anglican Communion, Enugu Dioceses and the first daughter of former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme.

"Lady Chidi is a graduate of Law from the University of Wales in the United Kingdom and  was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. She also bagged her Masters Degree in International Law and Diplomacy and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Lagos and Duquesne University, Pittsburg in the United States, respectively. In academia, she had a brief stint as an Adjunct Professor of Finance in Florida, USA. Currently, as a private citizen, her focus has been in Real Estate Law Practice and International Business.

"She is a promoter of excellent and qualitative education, and has a great passion for the advancement of women affairs and for female gender mainstreaming in Governance. Accordingly, she has run a foundation that is critically focused on development of human capital via education.  Lady Chidi also had the opportunity and privilege in the past to serve this country as the Chairman, Board of Directors, Federal Housing Authority and also as Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).

"You will all agree with me that Lady Chidi has the requisite administrative experience to drive our broad vision of taking our dear state to the very zenith where it truly deserves to be. Her experience on Small and Medium scale enterprises is vital to our vision of creating employment for our large number of teeming youths and also for women empowerment. I am glad about these qualities that she is bringing on board and I must say it's a privilege to have her on our team. She is certainly among the very best, because Anambra deserves the best.

"As deputy governor, Chidi will be my partner in turning Anambra state around and returning her to the trajectory, where the state is not just working, but will be an example that other states must seek to emulate. Furthermore, her selection is a strong public pronouncement of my commitment to gender mainstreaming, women empowerment and a 60-40 targeted ratio in political appointments. I look forward to our collaboration and shared responsibilities in delivering good governance and dividends of democracy to our people in Anambra State.

"Lady Chidi is happily married to Engr. (Dr.) Okey Onyemelukwe of Nnewichi, Nnewi.  Their union is blessed with five children.

Obaze concluded: "It is my most distinct honour and pleasure to present to you the next deputy governor of Anambra State, Lady Chidi Alexandra Onyemelukwe.

In her reaction ,Lady Chidi Alexandra Onyemelukwe said: "It is with utmost humility and a great sense of responsibility that I address all of you this morning.

"Anambra State has a plethora of professionals excelling in really all fields of human endeavor, scattered all around Nigeria and all over the globe, helping to build and strengthen other economies. Ask them to come home, and they would justifiably tell you that the land here is not conducive for them; ask them then, to come home and help make that land conducive, in terms of participating in leadership, and one look at perhaps just the conducts of the primaries, and the rhetoric of abuse, stone hurling on print and social media and you would have no one left in the room to give you an answer!

"Well, that trajectory has to change. The Augean stables need to be cleaned out. Simply put, I believe that it is time that the cream of the crop, who maybe some would say have nothing to lose, but who have a lot to offer, step out of their comfort zones, step up to the plate and put hearts, minds and intellects together, God being our helper, to build an Anambra State that we can all be proud of.

An Anambra State that our children and our children's children would be proud not just to call home, but to settle in and thrive in. This after all, is the state that produced the first President of Nigeria, the first Vice President, the first Senate President and many other firsts in academia and other spheres, including the first indigenous owned Auto Industry in Nigeria located in Nnewi (Ndi Dim).

"Our candidate, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, is a gentleman. No one can deny, that this is a man of integrity and a man with a vision. He has stepped up to the plate and I have stepped up to the plate right along with him. This, to us, is all about sacrifice, service and giving back. Our promise to Ndi Anambra is that we will selflessly give this all that we have got and more, the Lord being on our side. Let us all together join hands to get our state to truly live up to its full potentials and take its place as the Light of the Nation.

"Now I charge all our party members, our women in particular, let us pick up the gauntlet and get out to the field, the nooks and crannies of our 21 LGAs, to win the trust of Ndi Anambra that this PDP ticket of Obaze/Onyemelukwe indeed presents a better alternative to take our state to the Promised Land.
