No bomb blast in Enugu,says police

www.odogwublog.com reports that insinuations that a bomb blast occurred in Enugu,precisely at the closed down new artisan market along Enugu to Port Harcourt expressway,immediately after the NNPC mega station has been proved to be false. A minor explosion had occurred at a dump site of scrap metals beside the market at about 8pm on Monday night,and passers by allayed fears of a possible bomb explosion.

A press statement issued by the Enugu state police public relations officer,PPRO, Mr Ebere Amaraizu[DSP] on the matter, a copy of which was made available to newsmen confirmed that the explosion occurred at a dump site beside the new artisan market. He stated nobody was hurt but only a food retail shop was partly burnt, aftermath of the explosion.

Amaraizu said n as much as the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained, the state command of the Nigerian police is advising the good people of the state particularly resident of the axis not to panic and  to go about their normal lawful business as all hands are on deck by the command working in partnership with relevant sister security agencies and relevant stake holders for safety of lives and properties of all Nigerians resident in the state.

He disclosed that officials  of the Explosive Ordinance Department of the state police  command have ransacked  the scrap site and it's environs to ensure there are no dangerous weapons deposited within it.

It was observed  that most of the artisans and petty traders who irks their living beside the closed down new artisan market  earnestly has resumed their daily hustle when 'The Authority' visited the scene of the incidence to obtain on the spot assessment of the matter. Most of them interviewed said they weren't aware that such an incidence occurred in the area, as they came out this morning and resumed their businesses without being condoned off by law enforcement agencies or the market guides.

The new artisan market was officially closed down by the government of Enugu state early this year consequent on killing of a police officer,who was on investigation of alleged crime,prostitution and armed robbery incidences rampant at the new artisan market. But the petty traders, artisans and Cattle dealers,mostly from the Northern part of the country,has since continued their trade at both sides of the Enugu to Port Harcourt road, as the gates of the new artisan market is still under lock,on the orders of Enugu state government.
