www.odogwublog.com reports that a 26-year old former military officer from 20 Mechanised Battalion, Taraba State, Ebeje Nnamdi, who
serves as the gang’s trainer and 27 others, were yesterday, paraded by the
Anambra State police command for various offences, ranging from kidnapping,
armed robbery and cult activities.
Parading the suspects, the Anambra state Police Commissioner,
Mr. Garba Umar said the deserter military officer and his gang were arrested
on August 31, 2017 following investigation and intelligence reports.
Umar said the command arrested the gang leader,
Kenneth Chimezie who led the team of police operatives from the command to
their trainer’s hideout where he was arrested along with other gang members;
Peter Onyebuchi Ali and Ugwuokpe Nnaemeka and three others at large.
The suspects were members of a six man gang of armed
robbers that were responsible for the killing of police officers at Onitsha and
robberies at filling stations at various points in the state, including the
robbery at Bukachi filling Station at Eziowelle last month.
Items recovered from the suspects include: 336
rounds of 7.62mm AK 47 live ammunitions, three empty AK 47 rifle magazines, one
locally made double barrel pistol with two live cartridges, IPOB wears,
criminal charms and many ATM cards.
Also paraded at the Command’s headquarters in
Amawbia yesterday were 22 young men suspected to be cultists.
The suspects who belong to different cult groups,
were arrested at Nnewi by the police Special
Anti-cultism squared at a scene of initiation.
The command also arrested and paraded two suspected
kidnappers, Chukwudi Nwabundo and Obiora Madubueze while the third suspect,
Chinaza Udeezue who sustained gunshot injuries was latter conformed dead at an
undisclosed hospital.
CP Umar said that the police command rescued their
victim, Peter Chukwuemeka who hails from Isiokwe village in Aguleri, Anambra
East Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The suspects confessed to the crime upon
interrogation, though, the runaway army officer, who hails from Nsukka in Enugu
State denied being a trainer to the armed robbers and the members of the Indigenous
People of Biafra, IPOB.
The police boss, Umar, however reiterated the
readiness of the command to continue partnering other security agencies and law
abiding citizens of the state in eliminating all forms of crimes and
criminalities in the state.
He also advised parents to take care of their
children and wards in order to reduce cases of cultism in the society.
