www.odogwublog.com reports that no
fewer than two hundred (200) people mostly students joined the road
show organized by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to
mobilize the society against illicit drugs.
The
road walk, with the theme: “Listen First”, was to mark the 2017 United
Nations World Day Against Illicit drugs usually marked June 26th every
year
. The show thrilled members of the society
as some of the participants carried placards with different
inscriptions such as, “Save this generation from illicit drugs”, “say no
to drugs, we are happy we are drug free”, “drug kills”, among others.
Just as the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in
Anambra State, Mr Sule Momodu has called on parents to give listening
ears to their children to enable them know their aspirations and needs
in life.
Momodu identified lack of attention to
children as the major cause, why some children engage in illicit drug
which, according to him, often leads them into serious problems.
The
road walk which started at the NDLEA headquarters in Awka went through
popular UNIZIK junction through Aroma junction to Dr Alex Ekwueme square
before terminating at the NDLEA headquarters.
Addressing
journalists, Mr Momodu said the essence of the road walk was to
sensitize members of the public on the danger inherent in taking illicit
drugs.
Mr Momodu insisted that children, as leaders of tomorrow must be guided accordingly to enable them achieve their life dreams.
One
of the participants, Mr Gregory Anene, however called on governments at
various levels to intensify efforts towards eliminating the incidence
of illicit drugs in the society, especially among the youths.
Mr
Anene who is the state chairman of illicit drug abuse education (IDAE),
emphasized that youths were more vulnerable to illicit drugs, charged
parents to devote more time in bringing up their children rather than
pursuing money.
One of
the students who participated in the event, Miss Perpetua Chiagbata
appealed to her fellow youths to be more dedicated to their studies.
