UNIZIK Law teachers 50th Conference:Osinbajo laments increasing agitations, fingers political elites
www.odogwublog.com reports that the Acting
President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has blamed the increasing cases of agitation
across the country on the failure of the country to deliver on the basic needs
of the people, forcing them to seek for succor in their respective tribal
groups as the way out.
He said the political
elites failed the people through massive embezzlement of funds meant for their
social welfare.
Speaking during the
Golden Jubilee Conference of the Nigerian Law Teachers Association held at
the auditorium of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State,
Osinbajo said most of the security problems confronting the nation are
inflicted by corrupt practices, injustices, among others.
He wondered if the legal
system of the country could survive and serve its purpose without serious and
incisive reconsiderations, insisting that it is the duty of the three arms of
government to provide the enabling environment for the quality of life expected
by the people.
"The Boko
Haram in the north east, militants in the Niger Delta and farmer/herdsmen
clashes were as a result of poverty. Many of these agitations
center around the failure of the state to create an inclusive society, a failure to guarantee the security of lives and property by the agencies charged with the
responsibility and to build trust around the rule of law and justice system of administration.

He said lack of
provision of basic needs of life to the largest number of people remained the
greatest source of tension in the polity. He decried the level of unemployment
that makes the Nigerian youth vulnerable.
Earlier, the Anambra State
governor, Chief Willie Obiano, expressed worry over the rate criminals that are
being granted bail by lawyers, a development which he described as an ugly
trend. He called on the delegates to take advantage of the conference to
proffer lasting solution to the ugly trend.
