Ohanaeze seeks additional states, LGAs for South-East, rallies supports for HIV/ AIDS cure inventor, Prof Ezeibe

www.odogwublog.com reports that the apex Igbo socio- cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called for the creation of additional states and Local Government Areas for the South East geopolitical zone to bring the zone at par with other zones in the country.

With only five states, South East has the least number of states in the country while others have six states respectively  except North West that has seven states.

The National President of Ohanaeze , Chief Nnia Nwodo in a press statement issued yesterday frowned at  the lopsidedness against Ndigbo in the political structure of Nigeria, saying it can no longer be tolerated.

The statement signed by the National Deputy Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Chuks Ibegbu, urged the federal government to initiate urgent steps to correct the anomaly before the 2019 election.

Ohanaeze insisted on restructuring Nigeria to give all the ethnic nationalities a sense of belonging.

The statement read in part: " Ndigbo are presently shortchanged by the least number of states and local governments at their disposal compared to other zones of  the country.

"They have lost more than N300 billion  for this deliberate shortchange by those who feel they are the owners of Nigeria."

According to Ohanaeze, " whether by constitutional or consensual means the South East urgently needs additional states and local governments".

Ohanaeze further threw its weight behind Professor Maduike Ezeibe of  Michael  Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State who recently discovered cure for the dreaded HIV/ AIDS pandemic.

The apex Igbo body expressed dismay that instead of commending and encouraging the inventor for his scientific breakthrough, some federal agencies resorted to unnecessary critism and baseless condemnation.

" A situation where research findings in Nigeria are ethnicised rather than critically investigated with a view to ascertaining its veracity is condemnable. That act discourages research and discoveries.

"Rather than vilify the hard working Dr Ezeibe, the federal government through appropriate agencies should investigate his claims and authenticate it or disprove it using all known modern scientific methods.

"In other climes researchers are supported than discouraged. HIV/AIDS is ravaging many African countries and if Professor Ezeibe's discovery is factual , then it is good bye to one of the ravaging human calamities in the world".

Ohanaeze, therefore, called on the National Assembly to intervene in the matter and save the inventor from the unwarranted attacks by " retrogressive elements and ethnic bigots".
