Obiano saves Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rita Mmaduagwu Impeachment……Caretaker Committee connection

www.odogwublog.com reports that but for the intervention of the Anambra state Governor, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rita Maduagwu would have been by now impeached.

The impeachment was a fall out of the Transition Caretaker Committees for the 21 local government areas of the state where some of the Lawmakers believed they were schemed out as their interests were not protected.

Obiano despite agitations from some quarters released the list of the committee members necessitating agitations in some quarters especially Orumba South, Orumba North, Oyi , Ogbaru and some others.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties latched on that to buy over the lawmakers who realigned and mobilized to impeach the Speaker, Maduagwu before she alerted Obiano.

The speaker escaped an impeachment plot earlier Thursday, April 6.

Maduagwu, a lawmaker representing Nnewi South constituency II in the Anambra State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), escaped the impeachment after the intervention of the State governor, Willie Obiano.

The lawmakers in the State House of Assembly had arrived the Assembly complex for the day’s plenary session when the attempt to impeach the House Speaker was initiated.

Few hours after the plenary session commenced, the lawmakers made a move to impeach Maduagwu before the state governor came to her rescue.

Obiano who got a wind of the attempt, arrived the Assembly complex at about 1pm with his convoy but in a manner unlike his usual trips. One could say he came without his convoy.

The governor went straight to the Speaker’s office where he stayed for about 40 minutes before leaving the Assembly complex and in the melee the House Speaker left the Assembly complex with the ‘mace’ few minutes after Governor Obiano departed the State Assembly complex.


 “There was an attempt to impeach the House Speaker today, the governor came briefly ostensibly to douse the tension…. when he left, the speaker escaped with the mace… then the House sat but they brought a wooden mace which was flung out by Hon. Obinna Emeneka, representing Anambra East”.

 On seeing that the plot had failed, the lawmakers moved to reconvene next week Tuesday, April 11. Honorable Jideofor Okoye representing Anambra West moved that motion to adjourn the plenary session.


Speaker Rita Maduagwu, a law graduate from the University of Lagos, hails from Ukpor in Anambra state and she is fondly called Odiuko’.

 Maduagwu is a two time legislator who debuted in the House in 2011 on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). She’s representing Nnewi South constituency II in the Anambra State House of Assembly after she emerged unopposed, the Speaker of the 6th House of Assembly in 2015.
Meanwhile, out of the thirty (30) lawmakers in the house, twenty seven (27) were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA while three (3) emerged on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
