NCP seeks arrest of Obiano’s aides over alleged N865.5 million frauds

The National Conscience Party (NCP) has alleged that some aides to the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, took 20% and 25% respectively from the N20 million and N10 million donations of the governor to 177 communities and 63 markets in the state. They said that it was fraud and as such the aides involved in the alleged financial crimes should be arrested. A simple mathematical calculation of the amount put the figure at N865,500,000.
This allegation was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the state executive committee meeting of the party held yesterday at the party’s office in Awka and signed by its State Chairman, Sir Peter Okala and Secretary, Barr. Chibuike Nwabueze.
This was even as the party condemned in its entirety the appointment of caretaker committee to man the affairs of the local government by the Obiano-led administration. It said that it would use every legitimate means to ensure that the governor accounted for the several billions of naira he collected from the Federal Government for over one year on behalf of the Local Government Areas in the state
The communiqué partly read: “That the party’s congress that has been going on at the 328 wards and 21 LGAs will be concluded with a State Congress on the 3rd of May 2017 at Awka, Anambra State Capital.”
“That the outcome of the Congresses at the various levels is to set the tone and conclude preparations for the party’s (NCP) taking over of the Office of the Governor of Anambra State.”
“That National Conscience Party in the state urged Gov. Willie Obiano to before living office arrest his agents and aides  and prosecute them for collecting 20% and 25% respectively from all the 177 communities and 63 markets in Anambra State where the governor donated N10 million and N20 million cash projects to the markets and town unions.”
“That the party in the state recollects that while the governor approved the sum of N20 million and N10 million respectively for the 177 communities and 63 markets in the state, the 177 communities end up collecting N16 million losing N4 million to Governor Willie Obiano’s aides while market leaders end up collecting N7.5 and Obiano’s aides collected N2.5 million each.”
“That the party had it in good authority that Governor Willie Obiano’s aides said they withheld this amount as campaign fund for the re-election bid of the governor.”
“That the party condemns in strong terms the marriage between the 177 town unions and Presidents-General of the various markets who collude with the APGA government in the state to short-change and/or siphon the purported cash projects fund that would have benefited Ndi Anambra.”
“That the party in the state urge Governor Willie Obiano to make use of the billions of naira used by his government to mount Christmas trees during Christmas season and mount of unserviceable street lights across the state to repair and/or reconstruct the Umunya-Awkuzu portion of the Onitsha/Enugu Expressway; build more roads for Ndi Anambra and seek for refund from the Federal Government as Ndi Anambra are the direct beneficiaries of the road.”
“That NCP condemns in its entirety the state government’s unconstitutional decision by appointing transition committees for the 21 local government areas of the state after one full year the end of the tenure of the past local government elected executives and called on His Excellency to be true democrat by conducting a free and fair election in the local councils.”
“In conclusion, the party said it will not be long before the party will use all available legal instruments to compel the governor to account for all the billions of naira collected on behalf of the local government councils.”
