COOU Varsity, Anambra state awards Doctorate to Nwobodo, Moughalu, Onyejekwe; insists Government never approved relocation of Igbariam campus

 www.odogwublog.com reports that Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) , formerly Anambra State University will tomorrow decorate some eminent Nigerians with honourary doctorate degrees of the  institution during the 8th Convocation ceremonies of the University.

Those to be decorated are a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of the Old Anambra State, Senator Jim Ifeanyichukwu  Nwobodo ;former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Muoghalu  and former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, and Managing Director at Datcon Management Solutions ltd. Sir Chike Onyejekwe
 Vice Chancellor of COOU, Prof. Fidelis Okafor who disclosed this yesterday at the Igbariam Campus of the University during a press briefing to herald the activities marking the 8th Convocation and the graduation of 12th set of its  graduands  of the University said  that it has been the tradition of University to recognize and honour Nigerians who have distinguished themselves through their positive contributions to the country, the state and the university.

www.odogwublog.com reports further that Prof. Okafor announced that the government of Anambra state has no plans to relocate its Uli Campus to anywhere outside its present location and that the Governor , Chief Willie Obiano has never given such directive adding that the three campuses at Awka with College of Medicine, Uli with Sciences in accordance with the name the Institution started with hence big Engineering complex there  and Igbariam with Agriculture, Education and Management Sciences continue to exist in the three senatorial zones of the state.  He said the three campuses are developing simultaneously.



 He said that the Convocation lecture with the theme : “University Education, Funding and Academic Standard “ will be delivered by the former National president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Dipo Fashina while dignitaries both within and outside the country are expected to grace the convocation ceremonies.
He said the University’s Faculty of Agriculture in Igbariam Campus has been named as a Centre of Excellence for Research in Nigeria in keeping with the traditionset up by the late Premier of the Eastern Region, Dr. M.I. Okpara who designated Igbariam as a  Farm Settlement.
Okafor said a total of 2851 graduands will take part in the convocation with a breakdown which showed that 2378 are for Bachelors Degree, 195 for Post Graduate Diploma, 257 for Masters Degree while 21 is for Doctorate degree. He said the Institution recorded 13 First Class students , 649 second class Upper students and 1,348 second class lower graduands and 351 Third class graduates as well as 17 graduates at pass level degree. He said this 2016/2017 session would end by June this year.
