www.odogwublog.com reports that tears, and wailing flowed freely at the Imo State university, Owerri environs when a truck crushed a final year student of the institution who was on his way to write an early morning examination.
The truck with registration details Ebonyi XD 520 AKL had lost control of its brakes while approaching the IMSU junction at about 7:45am yesterday and rammed into the young man.
The truck which was approaching Owerri from the Okigwe - Owerri expressway had killed the student who out of fear allegedly jumped out of a tricycle, popularly known as keke instantly.
A sympathizer in between sobs said "the driver was shouting that people should leave the way because his brakes had failed. The student had just jumped out of a commercial tricycle for fear of being hit, yet he was mangled, he died instantly".
Efforts by Odogwublog.com to ascertain the identity of the late student proved abortive as no one within the vicinity could immediately identify him.
One of the sources said " The truck failed brake and the driver was shouting, alerting people to go of the tarred road. The student who was in a keke jumped out as a result of fear but he was eventually crushed dead by the trailer".
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the accident but said the identity of the victim was yet to be confirmed by the traffic unit that evacuated the body.
While the Public Relations Officer of IMSU, Obi Njoku, disclosed that students are writing first semester examination and that the identity was yet to be confirmed.
The IMSU junction which houses a large roundabout has been a bad spot that causes accidents for about three years.
Truck drivers have lamented that many of them lose control on approaching the junction only to realize they have to steer towards the right which can also result in accidents.
