Amnesty International Abuja Office protest condemned by Uwazuruike and Civil Societies

www.odogwublog.com reports that the founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign States of Biafra(MASSOB) and the leader of the Biafra Independent Movement Movement(BIM) chief Ralph Uwazuruike has condemned the protest by a group known as the Global Peace and Rescue Initiative(GOPRI) at the Abuja office of the human rights organisation,Amnesty International(AI) on Monday and Tuesday.

According to Uwazuruike in a statement through the leader of MASSOB, chief Solomon Oduchukwu noted that the protest was uncalled for, and lashed at the group claiming to be a human rights fighter .

He alleged that the group were only dancing to the tune of its sponsors and not fighting for the rights of Nigerians as they claim. The MASSOB henchman also urged GOPRI to desist from its threats of sacking AI from Nigeria,maintaining that the human rights organisation has discharged its obligations objectively.

Uwazuruike however appealed to the United Nations(UN) to intervene and save AI and MASSOB from oppressors. He equally warned GOPRI from parading itself as a human rights group. "they should stop parading themselves as a human rights group,human rights group can not tackle itself" Uwazuruike said.

GOPRI had on Monday besieged the Abuja office of AI with an angry protest threatening the organisation to leave the country within 48 hours or face further action by the group,

According to its leader Melvin Ejeh who stated "let us warn at this point that there will be no interval or respite if AI fails to leave Nigeria at the end of the five days as we will activate other more profound options to make the orgnisation leave Nigeria. We therefore use this opportunity to call on Nigerians to join the movement to get this evil out of our land before  before it plunges us into real war"

Ejeh had pointed out that various report by AI on the activities of the military in their fight against insurgency in the North and various interventions in civil disturbances across Nigeria have consistently indicted the military thus sporing their protest against the global human rights organisation.

But in a joint statement by Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of  Nigeria yesterday signed by Okechukwu Nwanguma,National Coordinator,Network on Police Reform in Nigeria(NOPRIN) and other 39 member of the organisation, it expressed its dismay over what it described as the "ignominious display by a group of rented crowd masquerading as members of a cvil society under the name of GOPRI"

It continued "we wish to state unequivocally that neither the group GOPRI nor its leader is a known entity within the Nigeria Civil society community.We have no doubt that the protest the group embarked  on is procured and orchestrated. We leaders and members of recognised and recognizable civil society organizations in Nigeria with track records hereby condemn the shameful activities of these fellow citizens who have shamelessly offered themselves as tools to tarnish the country"
