Careless Whispers Wipes out tears from Physically Challenged, Less Privilege in Anambra

www.odogwublog.com reports exclusively that ten (10) patients detained by the Medical Director of Ndeli Hospital, Igbu, Awkuzu in Oyi local council area among others were among some of the beneficiaries of the first outing of Caring and Helpline Foundation,(CHF) aka Careless Whispers’ which doled out several millions to assist people in severe difficulties yesterday.

Caring Helpline Foundation, aka Careless Whispers, is an organization founded and Initiated by Prince Emeka Kalu, a multi-talented Disc Joker (DJ), broadcaster par excellence and an On Air Personality in the state radio and television, ABS Awka.

Kalu, a Senior Disc Jockey who has won awards from both home and abroad, Presenter as well as national Vice President of Radio/Television/Theatre Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) in the South East zone anchors the programme every Sunday night from 9:30 pm to 12 Midnight.

The first beneficiary of the outing of CHF, is a seven year old twin sisters-Amala and Amaka of Amaezike Village, Mgbakwu, Awka North known as Obiekwe Twins as well as homeless Mrs. Josephine Obiaefuna of Uruaro Village Igbariam.

 As for the twins who have not walked since birth and required Hip Bilateral to be able to do so. They got N250,000.00 from the foundation to acquire that.

Their parents Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Obiekwe Achufuna whose joy knew no bound at the gesture said they heard of the activities of the foundation on the state radio and approached the founder for assistance.

Also, Mr. Moses Okafor of Odawa village, Achalla in Awka North local council who have been bedridden for seven years when he broke his neck in a motor accident and needed N97,000.00 to get treatment at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu got N150,000.00 to access treatment.

The foundation then moved to Uruaro village, Igbariam where it rescued a homeless woman, Mrs. Josephine Obiefuna from being ejected from a one-bed room she rented at Umudioka village Awkuzu after her husband drove her out of her matrimonial home. Her house rent for one year was paid for her.

Then at Ndeli hospital, Igbu Awkuzu the foundation paid hospital bills of every patient discharged but detained by the hospital management for their inability to pay their bill. They were altogether ten in number and the foundation paid about N500,000.00.

In an interview with journalists, the initiator/founder of Caring Helpline, aka Silent Whispers, Prince Kalu said he was driven into embarking on the gesture because of life experiences.

He said God has been very kind to him and in some cases survived motor accidents in which other passengers died and he felt he should do something to pay back God’s kindness.

As a multi-talented radio presenter and D-J he initiated his programme on the radio and urged people with difficulties to call and relate their problem.

In one case he said, a woman who was driven out by her husband for some misdemeanour was re-united to her husband after listeners intervened on his programme.

As complainants aired their problems, so did philanthropists role in money to have the problems solved. This, coupled with the seed money he made when he won the best D-J and radio presenter in London some years ago, Kalu kicked off his programme.

He vowed that the programme will never be politicized because he is not ready to align with any Non-Governmental Organization or a governmental organization for that matter.

Before take-off from the premises of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), partners of the foundation, the group had paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of the station, Chief Uche Nworah who wished the foundation well.

The foundation gave St. Peter’s Anglican Church women, Umunze some assistance in organizing their yearly conference, because according to Kalu , the women group assist the foundation through their membership.
