Senate Fails to confirm of Magu as EFCC Chairman after 5 Months

EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

The Senate has failed to hold the hearing for the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission earlier slated to hold today since 5 months of the request by the Presidency.

It was announced yesterday at the plenary yesterday, wednesday by the Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu that the screening will hold today, Thursday.

Officials of the EFCC led by the acting Chairman, Mr. Magu, were at the Senate this morning, awaiting to be called for the hearing but the Senate could not conduct the hearing because they did not list the confirmation in the Order Paper for Thursday.

Recall, that the Presidency had requested the Senate request in July 2016 through a letter signed by Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo in his capacity as the acting president when Mr. Buhari was away on a medical trip.

.
The letter was read on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki on July 14 but the Senate had not shown readiness to treat the request.

Report flying around had it that some senators are blocking the confirmation of Magu as the Chairman of the EFCC.
