Economic Recession: Ebonyi State Governor slashes state varsity fees


David Umahi, Ebonyi State Governor announced the cut down of school fees paid by the Ebonyi state University yesterday by Ten Thousand naira (N10,000). This was done during his interaction with the University communities when he visited the Institution.
The Governor said the Reduction is part of his own palliative measure to alleviate the suffering of students and parents occasioned by the recession that has effected the Country's economy. 
He also approved all promotions put on hold by the government during investigations into the running of the school. He, however, regretted that the school has the highest of staff in the southeast, adding that government will seek a review. He also advised the students against indulging in acts of cultism and other vices, pointing out that the repercussions of such acts will be too grave for such students to bear.

As part of the Governments support to the institution, he also announced a loan of N100 million to the university to enable it engage in agricultural ventures next year as part of the efforts to improve the IGR of the school. 
Reacting to the Governor's benevolence, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Francis Idike, thanked the governor for his efforts to improve the university. He also promised that the university administration will work harder to sustain the achievement so far recorded to be able to compete favourable with other institutions in west Africa.
