2 dead in Delta community over leadership tussle

At least two persons have been confirmed dead, while about five residential buildings were razed at Opherim community  Agbarha-Otor in Ugheli North council area of Delta state over a leadership tussle rocking the community.

Though details of the incident was sketchy at the time of making this report, it was revealed that the clash worsened as two rival factions engaged each other in an exchange of gunfire.

"But for the timely intervention of military officer in charge of the area, who drafted a team of soldiers to the community to quell the attacks, the community would have been in total ruins by now" a source said.

Contacted president general of the community Shedrack Etarhienyo attributed the cause of the clash to forces in the community allegedly trying to overthrow his government.

He said: I narrowly escaped death after i was shot at. As i speak with you, I am inside the bush where I am taking refuge.

Though the state acting police public relation officer, Andrew Aniamaka, promised to get further details on the incident when contacted, a security source at the Ugheli police area command admitted that no fewer than two persons lost their lives in the incident, while an unspecified number of houses were razed down.
