Women group administers free medicare in Kuje Community

A faith-based organisation, Arise Women, has administered free medical services to more
than 2,000 residents of Dafara community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
The group also donated a borehole and renovated and furnished classroom blocks at the community’s primary school as part of its “2016 adopt a community project”.
The CEO of the organisation, Pastor Mrs Siju Iluyomade, said the community outreach project was aimed at giving hope to the needy and the underprivileged members in the society as exemplified by the biblical members of the early church who shared their belongings for common good.
She identified greed in the national polity as a bane to equitable social development and admonished for love and tolerance among Nigerians.
She said, “The early church lacked nothing because they shared everything for common good. The problem is that there is a bit of selfishness in our nation and we need to get rid of it.”
The residents who had been diagnosed of different ailments were given drugs accordingly.
The chief medical director of the team, Dr. Edache Okoh, identified malaria, diabetes and hypertension as common cases among the residents.
He said after the programme, the group would undertake periodic evaluation of the residents diagnosed with various cases to ascertain the efficacy of the intervention.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to City News expressed delight for the show of concern by the group, describing the gesture as divinely inspired to rescue them from physical and spiritual sicknesses.
The village head of Dafara, Chief Joseph Makeri, prayed God to reward the facilitators accordingly.
He said, “For long water has been one of our major challenges in the community. With this marvellous intervention we are now back to life because what they have given us is life.”
