SEVEN DIE, FIVE INJURED IN IBADAN AUTO CRASH

At least seven people were confirmed dead, while five others were seriously injured in a tragic motor accident which occurred at the new garage area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital. The fatal accident happened when an articulated vehicle crushed a taxi and later crashed into a row of retail shops. Though the state PPRO S.P Adekunle Ajisebutu, yesterday confirmed that two died while four others sustained injuries, eyewitness revealed that seven people died in the accident. 

One of the witnesses, Lanre Agunla, said the vehicle was coming from Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, passing through the new Garage entrance to Ibadan when the driver suddenly lost control and crashed into a taxi. He said: "About 6:20pm on Saturday, the driver of the articulated vehicle lost control of the vehicle and ran into a Nissan Micra Taxi and a commercial tricycle before crashing into some retail shops. Seven people died on the spot while five others were injured. It was such a gory sight as body parts littered the scene.

Agunla added that the driver was immediately arrested by an irate mob who were ready to lynch him before he was rescued by a police patrol team and taken to the challenge police station. But the PPRO said two bodies were deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, while the injured were taken to Ibadan Central Hospital for treatment.
