One shot dead, another thrown into well as gun men storm Nkpo community

www.odogwublog.com reports that tears flow freely in Okpuno Akauzor Village Umusiome Nkpor in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state on Saturday when the decomposing body of Mr. Uzochukwu Ezeme one of the murdered victims of Wednesday night gun attack of the village was brought out from the local water well where he was thrown into by his assassins.

The ugly incident occurred when unidentified gun men operating on two motor cycles at different locations killed two people from Okpuno, Abor Akauzor, Umusioma Village threw one inside a local water well and left one with gunshot wound.

Another victim of the attack was Mr. Chibuzor Ajaetu, a 34 years old trader, who is said to have met his death at a beer parlor when the gun men opened fire on him killing one instantly .

The Okpuno Akauzo villager on Wednesday declared Ezeme missing after the attack on the faithful night but it was not until Friday evening at about 6pm after they discovered his body in a well after one other victim of the attack Mr. Okechukwu Ibegbulam regained consciousness and narrated their ordeal in the hands of their assailants.

Ibegbulam, the third victim of the attack who is receiving treatment in a hospital at Nkpor said he was attacked together with Mr. Ezeme in the village where they do their vigilante work by gun men who swooped on them and opened fire at them.

He said they were able escape the scene with bullet wounds to different directions and hid inside the bus where they were attacked at about 8.30 until the mobile phone belonging to Mr. Ezeme rang and their assailants traced him and shot him again half death and threw him inside over 60 feet local water well, where he died.

Ibegbulam who was lucky to have escaped death but not without a life threatening bullet wound, while narrating their ordeal to the police and newsmen at the hospital where he is receiving treatment, said “I covered myself with leaves, while writing in pains in the bush until our assailants left before I managed to make a distress call to relations who came to rescue me and brought me to this hospital.”

According to an eye witness late Ajaetu, and one Sunday Nzeife were said to have been called by some youths who are known to them to come for a peaceful settlement of land issue between them and another community, since the elders have not been able to settle the lingering dispute since 2012.

The dispute according to an eye witness has claimed the lives of two police men and a pregnant woman in 2013 in Okpuno, Abor Akuzor while many houses including a five star hotel belonging to Mr. Okey Nwaforagu who incidentally is the uncle to the dead victims of the recent attacks, was raised down to rubbles.

However, while Nzeife was said to have refused to honour the invitation, Ajaetu was said to have gone to meet them at a beer palour at Npkakana Lane also known as Boat and Nuts joint.

According to the eye witness, he was there when six men riding on two motorcycles arrived and opened fire on him and left him in the pool of his blood, while the owners of the restaurant fled with other customers who were in the place.

A small boy according to the eye witness who came to the place to buy something, a relation of the deceased Mr. Ajaetu, was about to greet him, when the assassins opened fire on him, and the boy ran for his life following sporadic gunshots, hid and watched from a distance, until they left.

He was said to have gone back to touch his lifeless uncle, and in the process, picked two telephone belonging to the diseased and one of the alleged assailants, which he handed over to his father who raised alarm and invited Ajaetu’s elder brother and the police.

Contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Nkiru Nwode, confirmed the incident, saying it happened on Wednesday at about 10 pm, adding that it is a murder case and have been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department.

She said that the police is still investigating and yet to make any arrest, but assured that if the complainants comes with fact that will help the police the perpetrators must surely be arrested and punished accordingly.
