NIGERIA GAME WILL BE TOTAL WAR--SOUTH AFRICA CAPTAIN

The skipper of the South Africa's senior female national team the Bayana Bayana, Janine Van Wyk has revealed that their semi-final clash against the Nigerian Super Falcons on Tuesday evening [Today] will be way more than just a football match, saying it is going to be a total war.

South Africa progressed to the last four following their convincing 5-0 win over Egypt in their last group A encounter to finish second and book a date with group B winners Nigeria, who registered seven points from three games. The super Falcons have been dubbed tournaments heavy favourites courtesy of their intimidating pedigree in the African showpiece. The Nigerians have won the competition on seven different occasions. Van Wyk whose side has peaked at the right time, is eager to finally end their jinx at this level, but Nigeria stands in their way to achieving that.

The competition starts now and from here on  it is war. It is going to be war..war...if we want it badly enough, then we have to demonstrate in on the pitch when we file out against the west Africans. We have overcome them before, and we can repeat that feat. She told supersport.com

It would be recalled that during the 2012 edition of the competition, South Africa stunned Nigeria in an historic 1-0 semi final win to set up a final against then hosts Equitorial Guinea, unfortunately, Bayana Bayana were unable to complete the last hurdle as they were pummeled 4-0 by the ruthless hosts.

Bayana Bayana are yet to win the continental crown and Van Wyk , who is the most capped player in the current squad with 140 appearances, feels this is the time to finally clinch the African title.
