Erosion in Anambra: One Dies, 10 Houses Destroyed

www.odogwublog.com reports that at least one person was reported dead and 10 houses caved in at Ezinifite Community, Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State, within this period of raining season.
This disclosure was made by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Engr. Samuel Obika during church service at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Umuchu, to mark 100 years of the existence of Anglican Church in the community.
Igwe Obika urged the State and Federal Governments to come to the rescue of the people of Ezinifite before next year’s raining season that he said would be more devastating than now as sign of tremor has been noticed in many buildings and farmlands there.
He said, “what has just happened is a just a tip of the iceberg of what will happen in the next raining season”.
“Already my community that is a boundary town between Imo and Anambra States is being cut off now by erosion threat”.
According to him “the erosion menace has gone beyond the community and Local Government intervention and will take more houses and lives if nothing tangible is done to cushion the devastating effect that will sack us from our ancestral homes”.
“We have fear whenever it rains because we know buildings will be destroyed. We will be on the watch out to hear who and whose house have been washed away and sometimes life will be involved”, he revealed.
