Custom donate rice to IDPs in Borno

The Nigerian custom service[NSC] have donated 284.5 metric tons of rice to the internally displaced persons in Borno state and the victims of Boko Haram insurgence living in the host communities in Maiduguri metropolis and Jere Local Government Area of the state.

While presenting the relief materials to Governor Kashim Shettima at the government house in Maiduguri, the acting comptroller general of the NSC, Sanusi Umar, said that despite the readiness of the IDPs to return to their liberated communities, peace was yet to be sustained as hunger persisted in the camps and host communities.

The distribution of 11.517 bags of 50kgs of rice to 1.5 million IDPs was only an intervention measure to reduce the hardship faced by the displaced persons, as they prepare to return to their liberated communities. He said that the distribution of the rice should be fair and equitable so that the materials would get to the door steps of all the IDPs, including those taking refuge in the host communities and satellite camps.

The custom boss said that a bumper relief materials intervention is also expected from the NCS in December  for IDPs in Borno and Yobe state respectively.
