www.odogwublog.com reports that tragedy struck today at Nsukka, the university  town in Enugu state as two  trucks loaded with  liquor products crushed a total of three people to death at two different locations of the town, while an angry mob set one of the trucks ablaze and prevented fire service workers from putting off the fire.

One of the trucks was carrying Cocoa Cola products while the other was loaded with Hero brand of beer.

An eye witness who don't want to be quoted in print disclosed that the truck loaded with Hero beer had brake failure while descending the popular 'Ugwuoye' hills near old NEPA office, consequent upon some cartons of beer which fell from the truck struck a motorcyclist and his female passenger. The motorcyclist died on the spot while the female passenger died later at a nearby hospital.

And less than one hour after the 'Ugwuoye' incident,  another truck loaded with Cocoa Cola products crushed a trader  who deals on mobile phones and accessories at Nsukka Main market to death. The incident happened in front of Nitel building at Nsukka.

It was gathered an angry mob tried to set the truck that killed the GSM dealer ablaze.

The chairman of GSM dealers in Nsukka main market, Mr Innocent Ekwunife, described the incidences as horrible. He disclosed  that the GSM dealer,whom he gave his name as Mr Chidi Ogbu was coming to his shop before he was crushed to death instantly by the truck.

He lamented, “Today is  a black Monday in Nsukka,  unfortunately  the trailer in that  accident opposite Nitel was set ablaze by angry mob'.

“We have decided to close of all GSM shops in Nsukka main market today as mark of respect for one of us who lost his life in an accident. We want government to investigate what caused the accident that killed our colleague so as to avoid a repeat in future'.

The transitional chairman of Nsukka local government area, Prof. Mrs  Rose Onah, described the two accidents  as very  unfortunate and urged road users to exercise more patience while crossing the roads in view of  ongoing road construction in the town.

Professor Onah stated, “Some of the causes of accidents are impatient and not giving proper attention to vehicles which will cause problem on the way'.

She  frowned on the action of some residents of the town who  hurled stones and pebbles on fire service workers, who rushed to the scene of the incidence to  put off fire put on the trailer set ablaze by an angry mob.

Her words, “I heard that fire servicemen initial attempt to put- off fire on the trailer was scuttled by some residents that attacked them which made them to go back.

“We should learn how to prevent further damages when accident occurred by cooperating with security agents, fire service people and FRSC workers. I expressed my sympathy to families that lost their beloved ones and urge God to grant them the fortitude to bear the untimely loss'.

When contacted the Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nsukka Unit Command, Mr Bello Mohammed confirmed the two accidents and urged drivers to be careful so as to avoid future occurrences.

He cautioned, “Drivers in Nsukka town and environs should be more careful and take adequate precautionary measure knowing very well that road constructions are going on in the town.

“The two accidents and death as result of it could have been averted if those involved have exercised patience and precautionary measures'.
