The controversy over the emergence of Yemi Osinbajo as Nigeria’s Vice-President cropped up again Wednesday night when he declared that he was recommended for the position by ‘someone’, who he however, declined to name.
The politics of his being picked as running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 Presidential Election has been reverberating in the polity for some time.
A portion of the recently-launched biography by American Professor John Paden titled: ‘Muhammadu Buhari: Challenges of Leadership’ claimed that Osinbajo emerged as Vice President despite pressure against it by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Paden had in the book on Buhari, stated that the former Lagos State Governor and acclaimed political godfather of the South west wanted the Vice-President’s slot for himself and not Osinbajo.
Other versions of the events had on the other hand reported that Osinbajo became the Vice-President because he was solely nominated by Tinubu.
But Osinbajo apparently broke his silence on the matter in his remarks during a presidential dinner he organised in honour of over 200 graduates and beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programmes for ex-Niger Delta militants at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
