Police officer shut in Imo as gun men attack station

www.odogwublog.com reports that gun wielding armed men at the weekend, invaded the Mbieri Division of the Nigerian Police, in Mbaitoli local government of Imo State, and killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
Enwerem disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu has ordered an investigation into the ugly incident but stated that no rifle was stolen by the suspected armed robbers.
Sources said the deceased police officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, whose identify was yet to be ascertained as at press time was attacked and shot dead by the gunmen who invaded the police station.
It was gathered that the dare devils had arrived the police station in the evening of the fateful day, stern looking, wielding guns and attacked the police officer who was on duty, shot him in the process and took to their heels.
Sources who were alarmed at the effrontery of the gunmen and attack, said the attack must have been triggered by the arrest of their member or was as a result of gunmen who stormed there to steal rifles for operations.
Late ASP lost his life while struggling to safeguard his rifle from them, an action that angered the gunmen who shot him, and he died instantly.
Police spokesman for Imo State, Mr Andrew Enwerem confirmed the incident but said it was an armed robbery attack on the fallen cop.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, who declined giving full details of the attack on the police station and death of his colleague, the slain policeman was attacked and killed afyer he had already closed for work and was about living for his home.
