reports that worried by the sorry- state of roads in the South East
geopolitical zone which have for years remained commuters' nightmare, the youth
wing of the apex Igbo socio- cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called
on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly commence the rehabilitation of the
roads.
Ohanaeze Youth Council ( OYC) in a press statement
personally signed by its National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, decried
the worsening condition of South East roads particularly federal roads in the
zone.
OYC particularly noted that the state of roads in Aba, the
commercial hub of the zone had gone so bad and wanted immediate action to give
the people a sense of belonging.
Decrying the deplorable condition of roads in the commercial
city, Ohanaeze noted with concern that President Buhari could hardly access the
palace of Aba monarch, HRM Isaac Ikonne where a chieftaincy title was conferred
on him shortly before the 2015 general election "due to bad road."
The statement read in part: " Ohanaeze Youths call on President Buhari to
intervene and help rebuild south east federal roads especially in Aba .
" Buhari should be reminded that he still holds the
highest chieftaincy title in Aba"Ogbu Agu 1,of Aba. But regrettably, President Buhari cannot access the road to
the palace of HRM Eze ikonne, if he decides to visit the Aba Monarch due to bad
road."
OYC also called on Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu to declare amnesty to
kidnappers, militants and other criminal elements terrorising Abia residents.
The youth group also expressed concern over the condition of
workers in the state following months of salary arrears, and urged the governor
to expedite action in payment of workers salaries.
"Governor Ikpeazu should expedite action especially in
the areas of payment of salaries, Youth empowerment and blockage of Revenue leakages.
"We also ask the Governor to set up amnesty office for
kidnappers, militants and criminals to surrender arms like Governors
Rochas Okorocha,and Nyesom Wike
of IMO and Rivers State to
reduce crimes during this embers
months"
OYC however, urged Abians to be patient with Ikpeazu who it
said is distracted by the legal tussle over his seat, while also pleading with
the governor's opponents to consider " out of court settlement" in
the interest of the state.
