NNPC mobilises equipment to Northeast as search for crude intensfies

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, as part of directives from President Muhammadu Buhari, has intensified plans to deploy equipment and resume the search for oil in Bauch and Gombe states.
The director of the NNPC, Maikanti Baru, made this known during his visit to Bauchi state.
President Buhari had earlier ordered deeper exploration of some hitherto neglected areas in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria.
According Baru, “We are here to signal to the good people of Bauchi and Gombe states of our intention and efforts to mobilise our equipment back to Gongola basin.
“Our intention is to start 3D seismic acquisition, which covers as much as possible the basin in terms of exploring hydrocarbon in the North-East.
“Of course, our activities in the Chad Basin will also be re-activated as soon as we get the clear sign.”
Baru further advised people of the states not to panic when they see the movement of the oil search equipment into their communities.
He added that earlier prospects carried out in the two states were credible, particularly in one of the wells in Yankari Games Reserves.
He said, “Our intent now is to probe with more definitive seismic data that will ensure we cover as much as possible.”
Baru pointed out that the renewed search for oil in the Chad Basin would involve widespread probing of some allocated and non-allocated oil blocks in the region with a view to establishing the magnitude of the deposits.
