I'VE HAD MANY ENCOUNTERS WITH BUHARI - OBASANJO

Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo has called
on Nigerians to be committed to the unity of
the country.
The former leader was speaking during the
presentation of a book, “Muhammadu Buhari:
The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria”, in
Abuja on October 3, Monday.
Obasanjo said he and President Buhari had
sustained their relationship despite having
been in a direct political opposition in the
recent times.
He said: “President Buhari and I have had
many encounters, but most of them in
parallel. Not too long ago, we had a direct
opposition at the ballot box but even then, it
did not affect our relationship. And
fortunately, we didn’t have to look at each
other through the barrels of our guns. I thank
God for that.”
Ex-president, who congratulated the author
and the subject, said the book was for those
wanting “to know about Nigeria yesterday and
today and those who want to know a little bit
about, if you like, their present leader.”
Obasanjo was a founding member of the
Peoples Democratic Party and led the party to
two resounding victories after military rule
ended in 1999.
Meanwhile, he defected from the party before
the last year election.
Despite his pledge not to defect to another
party, ex-president has been vocal in his
support for the incumbent leader of the
nation, who was elected under the platform of
the All Progressives Congress.
