INTERNATIONAL TEACHER'S DAY: NANS Advocates for Improved welfare of Nigerian Teachers

National President, NANS, Comrade Chinonso Obasi (IBB)

In a press release by the National President of National Association of Nigerian Students, Comrade Chinonso Obasi (IBB), GCNS , he urged governments at all levels, particularly the Federal Government to prioritize teachers’ welfare as a deliberate commitment to place our learned population in competitive edge in global sphere.

He said "If actually education is the pillar that holds any sane society that means teachers are the pillar upon which our society stands".

Continuing he said, " Teachers give root to every profession on earth, teachers teach the young ones how to be conformists in the society, the contributions of the teachers in keeping our society afloat cannot be overemphasized. Unfortunately, teachers especially in Africa and Nigeria in particular have not been given their dues".

He  said that they cannot but solidarize with the very profession who have kept Africa competing in the global stage despite poor remuneration and indescribable condition of service.

NANS therefore advocates for improved salary package, training and retraining programs, conducive learning environments and sustainable pension package.

He noted that it is wicked to assume that “teachers reward is in heaven”! Teachers deserve a decent salary and undeniably good pension. Teachers reward must indeed come while serving and living.

"We urge governments at all levels, particularly the Federal Government of Nigeria to prioritize teachers’ welfare as a deliberate commitment to place our learned population in competitive edge in
global sphere. And we know it for a fact that Nigerians students are all products of teachers in Nigeria, we really acknowledge and appreciate your sincere efforts. We say thank you for the knowledge impacted in us".
