The family of a deceased police officer,
identified as Taiwo Agboola, on Thursday
caused a dramatic scene at the Nigerian Police
Area Command’s office at Oyemekun Road in
Akure, the Ondo State capital, after they
dropped his corpse in front of the office to
protest the insensitivity of the command to the
death of the cop.
The officer was allegedly killed by a reckless
driver when he was controlling traffic on the
Oyemekun Road penultimate week.
Until his death, the Punch reports that Agboola
was attached to the Fanibi Police Station.
While harping on the alleged insensitivity of the
command to the death of the cop, the
deceased’s family dropped the corpse and
insisted the command took over the burial plans
of Agboola, a plea the command had allegedly
ignored.
They blocked the gate leading to the office and
for several hours, barricaded Oyemekun Road,
which resulted in a traffic jam.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi
Joseph, who confirmed the incident on Friday,
said, “The deceased is to be buried at his
hometown. The area of disagreement between
the family and the command is the hiring of an
ambulance by the police for the burial.
“The family insisted on the use of a police
ambulance instead of a hired one.
“The command has made necessary
arrangement, including the purchase of a coffin,
hiring of an ambulance and the provision of
vehicles to take the family and the command’s
delegation to the deceased’s hometown in Osun
State.
“The Area Commander has intervened in the
matter and the family has taken the corpse back
to the mortuary.
“The late cop would be buried today,” the PPRO
added.
