2 Corporals, 9 Other suspects in Connection with the Kidnap of CBN Govs wife arrested with N14.725m ransom Cash
Eleven suspects were on Monday paraded by the Police over the recent kidnap of the wife of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mrs. Margret Emefiele.
Mrs. Emefiele and three of her aides were abducted on September 29 at Oquneki Hills along Benin-Agbor Road in Delta State and were rescued the next day by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) attached to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP’s) office.
Parading the suspects at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the Force spokesperson, DCP Don Awunah, said that exhibits recovered from them includes N14.725 million, three vehicles, one AK-47 magazine and two cartridges.
He named the suspects as Lance Corporal Musa Maidabra, 28; Lance Corporal Edwin George, Ernest Anthony Uduefe, 32 (dismissed soldier); Mohammed Abubakar A.K.A Dogo, 29 (gang leader); Mohammed Musa, 26 and Mohammed Sule, 26.
Others are Ibrahim Abdullahi, 30, Aliyu Musa, 30 and Mohammed Yusuf, 36.
On how the suspects were arrested, Awunah said: “Lance Corporal Musa Maidabara, who is a native of Katau village in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State is a serving Lance Corporal with the Nigerian Army at 122D30 Regiment in Maiduguri, Borno State.
“He was arrested for the active role he played in the kidnap. Upon his arrest, he made a confessional statement to the Police admitting to be part of the gang that kidnapped and collected ransom from the victim's family.
“On the other hand, Lance Corporal Edwin George who is a native of Otukpo Town, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State is of the Nigerian Army serving at 122D Regiment in Maiduguri, Borno State. He was part of the trio that escorted the ransom money to Benin City, Edo State. A Honda car worth N1.1million which he used part of his loot to buy was recovered from him.”
Awunah explained that Ernest Anthony Uduefe, a native of Igbuku village, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State volunteered a confessional statement on his involvement in the crime, while Mohammed Abubakar A.K.A Dogo, a native of Mubi town, in Mubi Council of Adamawa State, is the leader of the group and confessed to the crime as well receiving the sum of N11 million cash from the ransom paid.
While urging Nigerians to cooperate with the police in their effort to curtail the activities of kidnappers in the country, Awunah reiterated that the police “do not and will not encourage the payment of ransom.
