Violent Crimes: Nnewi stakeholders petition IGP for redeployment of CSP James Nwafor to Anambra

www.odogwublog.com reports that stakeholders of Nnewi, the industrial hob of Anambra State, have petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris Kpotum, to urgently redeploy CSP James Nwafor to Anambra State “because of the numerous good works he has done in the state”.
As well, a prominent Anambra son, Chief Joe Ifedobi (Okosisi Akpo) condemned the power play that consumed CSP James Nwafor in the first instance when he was transferred to Bauchi state even when he was doing a great job to security of the state.
Chief Ifedobi insisted that politics and favouritsim should not be slaughtered on the altar in security matters wondering why Governor of Anambra state should request for CSP James Nwafor to head the SARS and some people in the police would be playing politics with it as if Nwafor is from Anmabra state.
He said: ‘’ Nwafor is not from Anambra but his works found him out hence the Governor allegedly requested for him only for some high police officers connived with some civil society groups to be writing petition against him which led to his removal again after he was recalled to head the anti crime agency. I want to know if  the Governor is no longer the chief security officer  in the state.
In a 14 paragraph petition titled “Redeployment of CSP James Nwafor to Anambra State/ Protests against same, our stand”, dated 24/09/2016, and signed by Odili Okoye, Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Nnewi branch; Dr. Douglas Nkemdilim, President-General, Nnewi Town Union; Austin Jideofor, Chairman, Concerned Nnewi Stakeholders; Kennedy Ojukwu, Chairman Nnewi Bankers Association and Chief Edward Mouzom, President, Nnewi Traders Association, the group pleaded with the IGP to ignore “noise and protests across the state calling for the complete removal of the gallant officer from Anambra”.
The petition wrote: “… Sir, we wish to state that that we are particularly happy for the redeployment of CSP James Nwafor to Anambra State. He is a gallant officer, who wrestled violent crimes to a standstill in Anambra State.
“You will recall that sometime between 2008 and 2010, Anambra was bedeviled by violent crimes, especially armed robbery and kidnapping. Anambrarians were at the mercy of criminals, and fear pervaded the entire state.
“During the period in view, about 70% of prominent citizens of the state were kidnapped and some were killed even after huge ransoms were paid. Those were the era of broad day light robbing of banks in Nnewi, Onitsha and Awka.
“It was during this period that Amichi Police Station in Nnewi South council area was burnt, officers chased away and their arms carted away by hoodlums. It was same for Ukpor Police Station still in Nnewi South council area of our state. This was the period when police officers were killed at Emeka Offor junction, Oraifite in Ekwusigo council area, and two police vehicles burnt.
“We wish to state unequivocally that over 58% traders, lawyers, doctors and bankers were kidnapped from Nnewi alone during the time.
“Sir, we are witnesses to the efforts, commitment and gallantry of CSP James Nwafor. We state without mincing words that James Nwafor was able to rid Anambra State of all criminal elements as many ran away while others were jailed.
“Since 2014 till he was recently redeployed from Anambra State, cases of kidnapping and armed robbery was very scanty.
“Immediately he left Anambra, the criminal elements that had hitherto run for their lives started regrouping. Nnewi, again, has started witnessing cases of car snatching and handbag snatching at gun points.
“The above incidents led to the general outcry by well-meaning Anambrarians for the return of CSP James Nwafor to Anambra”, the petition read, adding that noise and protests for the complete removal of James Nwafor from Anambra were sponsored by mischief makers and enemies of the state.
‘’Sir, we speak from experience that once James Nwafor is removed from Anambra state , the criminals will take over the state of Anambra state and once again terrorize her citizens’’.
