The remains of late Mrs Caroline Onoh, the wife of late Chief Christian Chukwuma Onoh, former governor of old Anambra state was finally laid to rest at her country home,Enugu Ngwo, in Enugu North council area of the state,amidst torrential downpour..
Late Mrs Caroline Onoh was the mother of Nigeria's former Ambassador to Spain died on Tuesday,June 21,at Enugu State University Teaching Hospital,UNTH,Park lane,Enugu at the age of 81.
Her burial was preceded with a Requiem mass at Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu conducted by Most Revd C.C.Onaga, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu diocese.
In a sermon, Rev. Fr. Nnamdi Nwankwo, who is also the principal of College of Immaculate Conception,C.I.C Enugu, said late Mrs Caroline Onoh
embodied many Christian virtues which made her worthy of
sainthood. He urged the Catholic bishop to consider initiating the
process of canonization as a fitting tribute for her “exemplary live”.
The Enugu state governor, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who attended the Requiem Mass described late Mrs Onoh as a virtuous woman of exemplary
character who inspired many with her selflessness, humility,
simplicity and sincerity.
The Enugu governor noted that the late Mrs. Onoh was also a devout
Christian, community leader and dedicated mother who rendered great
service and made exceptional contributions to the development of the
society.
While offering the condolences of the Government and people of Enugu
State, the entire South-East region and the nation at large, Gov.
Ugwuanyi urged members of Onoh’s family, friends and well-wishers to
take solace in the “worthy legacies and examples that she left
behind”.
Other dignitaries who defied the morning rain to feature at the church service include the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie
Obiano and his wife, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike
Ekweremadu, the Governor of Ebonyi State who was represented by the
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Bernard Ugwu, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, and wife of the Enugu State
Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi.
The immediate past civilian governors of Anambra and Ebonyi states, Mr.
Peter Obi and Chief Martin Elechi,also attended the requiem mass in honour of late Mrs Onoh. Mr Labaran Maku,former Minister of Information during ex President Goodluck Jonathan administration, joined the family at Enugu Ngwo as the remains of late Mrs Onoh was laid to grave in her late husband's compound.
