Tension in Imo state as Ex Militants attack Imo secretariat

There is tension in Imo state as some ex militants in the state under the amnesty programme of the Federal Government went wild, attacking the secretariat of the Bureau for Niger Delta along Okigwe road,Owerri.

According to an eye witness, who narrated the incident said the ex militants stormed the office of the Special Adviser to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Bureau for Niger Delta Affairs,Honourable Justus Ojika at about 5 pm conveyed in two buses and went straight inside the premises, shooting sporadically.

The agitators who were numbered over twenty destroyed the buildings of the secretariat with their automatic weapons but sparred the security guard on duty who was the only person around when the attack was launched.

When contacted, the ex militant leader who led the attack, Bobby Uzoma Chukwuka on behalf of his gang claimed responsibility  of the attack. He further alleged that largess given to Ojika for his men for transportation by the Special Adviser to the president on Niger Delta Affairs and Amnesty programme,Brigadier Paul Boro was diverted by the aide.

Chukwuka said "we were given money through Ojika for our transport after Boro addressed us after his tour of our area and assured us of our allowances and integration only for Ojika to shortchanged us. We tried calling him on phone but he refused to pick our calls,so we have no other option than to strike at his office.

However, Ojika reacting to the allegation denied been given any largess for the ex militants. "I was not given anything by the S A for them,I have appealed to them to be calm, after all, is transport money more than what they would get"

Media aide to Boro, Piriye Kiriyamo when contacted said it is unbelievable and strange that the ex militants after surrendering their weapon could attack the office.

Kiriyamo who also denied any form of largess by his boss to the ex militants said "it is strange for them to attack with their weapon after laying them down,if they have any issue they should have channeled it to Abuja,it is unbelievable for any agitator to do such, after the police investigation,we shall know the truth"

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relation Officer(PPRO) Andrew Enwerem said that the police is yet to be officially briefed on the incident.
