Students of the Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) have paid glowing tributes to two of their former colleagues, Joy Ihezie and Faith Okere, who were killed by stray bullets on the Kaduna - Jos expressway last Friday while attending a conference.
Students of the Medical and Laboratory science of the Faculty of Health Sciences were last week Friday on their way to attend an annual conference at the University of Jos, Pleatau state, North central - Nigeria, when they ran into a troubled spot where armed robbers were in a shootout with security men.
While many sustained injuries, two females, Joy Ihezie and Faith Okere,  200 and 400 level students respectively died instantly after they sustained gun shots.
At the tribute session, students of Medical and Laboratory science paid glowing tributes to their late coursemates who they described as committed students while academic activities were totally paralyzed.
The students who wore black attires, bore placards and pictures of their fallen course mates, paraded in and around the school campus, singing mourning songs in honor of the dead.
One of the mourning students, Ngozi Ibe said that they were saddened by the devastating and ugly development of the death of two of their own, saying the department was basking in the euphoria that it was going to have a formidable and credible representation at the annual conference only to be heat by the painful news that two of its students died through stray bullets.
She explained that they have never been so devastated, because they were all in high spirits that its delegation to the National conference would do the department proud and come back with good news, only for their hope to be dashed  with the death of two of its promising students.
