Breaking News on Abia Governorship tussle: Clerics pray for Ogah's inauguration

The political logjam in Abia State, Thursday, took a spiritual dimension as hundreds of clerics under the auspices of Abia Ministers Prayer Network gathered in Umuahia to pray for the inauguration  of Dr. Uche Ogah as governor.

Ogah has been  issued a certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) following the June 27 judgment of Justice Okon Abang which sacked Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu and ordered that he ( Ogah) be sworn in.

But Gov. Ikpeazu has since appealed the court ruling thus stalling Ogah's move to be sworn in as the suit is still pending at the Appeal Court Abuja.

The clerics drawn from different denominations including the orthodox and pentecostals from 17 councils across the  state converged at Jesus' Disciples Assembly Udi Road Umuahia prayed for God's urgent intervention in the political debacle in the state.

They also prayed against violence and bloodshed in the state as well as for God's protection over Ogah, adding that God should dismantle the forces against his ascension to power.

Addressing the press later after a  marathon prayer session, Apostle Praise Odinaka of Power Word Assembly Ohanku, said the clergy in the state decided to seek divine intervention over the political crisis in the state because of their conviction that " Ogah  is the will of God for Abia".

He said they had the burden to pray for him so that God would facilitate his enthronement despite the forces against him.

He denied that the clerics at the event were hired by Ogah, explaining that they have been praying together for the state since 2012.

Asked if they would be disappointed if Ogah fails to get justice at the appellant court, he said they would continue to pray for the state and whoever is finally declared the Governor.
