Tragedy in Anambra as two storey building collapsed killing 3

Three persons have been confirmed dead, while four others sustained various degrees of injuries when a two-storey building still under construction suddenly collapsed at Ikenga Ndiagu village, Ogidi in Idemili North Local government Area of Anambra state and trapped all the workers doing the construction works.

According to the source, the building which was at the second floor stage, collapsed at about 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday and by yesterday morning, the three persons were found dead and their bodies were deposited at Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital Morgue, Ogidi, while three others who were in a critical condition, were also admitted at intensive care unit of the Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital for proper medical attention.

As at the time of filing this report yesterday, sources told newsmen that a rescue team were still battling to see if more victims could be recovered either dead or alive.

Eye-witness also told newsmen that because the building did not have approved government building plan, its landlord whose name was given by security agencies as Marcel Amumba is now in police custody in connection with the collapse of the building.

Amumba was said to be inspecting work at the second floor of the building when it collapsed and he sustained minor injuries but was treated before finding himself in the police custody.

Efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer, DPO at Ogidi, Hassan Musa (CSP), proved abortive as his phone was not going but a senior police officer at the station who preferred anonymity, simply confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were still in progress.
