Tension as Oraukwu residents protest imposition of monarch on community

www.odogwublog.com reports that about 300 residents of Oraukwu community in Idemili North council area of Anambra State on Wednesday blocked the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway to protest the alleged plot by the state government to impose an unpopular candidate on them as their monarch against what they said is the choice of the majority.

This is coming as Governor Willie Obiano has perfected plans to crown another person monarch Thursday. Invitations are already sent.
The protesters armed with placards with various inscriptions such as ‘APGA help us respect majority wish in Oraukwu’, ‘Igwe Pius Okoye scored the highest vote’, Money bags should leave Oraukwu alone’, ‘6 out of 8 villages in Oraukwu support Pius Ezedigboo Okoye’ among others defied the light rain showers to match along the major road to the government house where they were received by top officials of the government.

The Acting President-General of Oraukwu Congress, Chief (Sir) Harold Mbanisi while registering their displeasure before the government’s representatives said that they had come to reject the rumoured plan of the government to issue Certificate of Recognition to one Dr Emeka Onuora who score 15 votes as against Chief Pius Ezedigboo Okoye who scored 535 votes during the election supervised by the government last December.

Addressing the protesters the Chief of Staff to the governor, Joe Asike and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu in their separate speeches told the protesters to remain peaceful as their message would be conveyed to the governor for consideration.
