Prof. Fidelis Okafor, COOU VC says, ‘’I am Not Worried About my Rumored Removal…

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Vice Chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Fidelis Okafor has said he is not perturbed by the rumour of his removal before the end of his tenure, urging those who are lobbying to take over the helms of affairs of the institution to hang on till the expiration of his tenure.

Prof. Okafor, who dropped the hint in his office at Igbariam observed that his unprecedented achievements in the area of infrastructure and academic development have dared many to jostle for his position, stressing that it is intrusions and infra dig for somebody to lobby to work in Igbo society. “People who come here, after seeing a very good environment, good network road, a peaceful academic environment, modern infrastructure, and all that, will all like to come and take over. But, I strongly believe that anyone who desires to work, need not to lobby to work. I don’t know human beings that lobby to work. When I see people lobby to take over, I begin to wonder what their motives are.

“So, attempts are made and are still being made to remove me and take over, even when it is not time to do so; but, the authority that put someone here knows when to remove him. So, there is no worry about that” he stated.

On stemming the tide of cultism in the institution, the Vice Chancellor maintained that COOU has zero tolerance for cultism, insisting that any student caught, will immediately lose his admission and will be handed over to security agencies for prosecution.

“We keep on reminding our students during matriculation to desist from any involvement from cultism, and to desist from being recruited in any of these cult groups. We mandate all fresh students to fill a mandatory form called ‘Cult rejection form’ which the person must state that he or she will not indulge in cultism and will never be a cultist throughout his career. So, it means signing their expulsion if they are caught.

“Secondly, we have an effective anti-cult team that moves round and police the residence of our student to fish out those cultists who are either trying to create problem or recruit members.

“We also introduced moral instruction through various public organizations in the university where we try to let the students know that they won’t graduate unless they are found worthy in character and learning.

“So, I can tell you in confident that incidence of cultism has drastically reduced from what we use to know in this university. Another measure we used to stem the tide of cultism is through prayer, we have our inter-denominational prayers on the campus and it is yielding positive results” he noted.
