Nimbo Community fresh attack not true, says Uzo Uwani council Boss

The Uzo Uwani transitional council chairman of Enugu state ,Hon Kornel Onwubuya, yesterday debunked rumours currently making round the Enugu metropolis and beyond,  that there was a renewed Fulani herdsmen attack on Nimbo community recently.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen, some of whom have been arrested by the police in Abuja had unleashed mayhem on Nimbo community on Monday, April 25,2016, consequent upon which many of their rural dwellers were killed and properties worth millions of naira  destroyed.

It could be recalled that  both the Federal government and Enugu state government wielded into the matter and beefed up security in the area, to prevent future occurrence. However, recently, rumours were ripe that another mayhem has been inflicted on  the community, by another  group of Fulani herdsmen.

But the Uzo Uwani council chairman, Hon Kornel Onwubuya, dispelled the rumours as false. Hon Onwubuya,who spoke   to a group of news men in Enugu yesterday, after testifying before the seven man commission of inquiry set by Governor Ugwuanyi to investigate the incidence, disclosed  the only related incidence was a man  killed by suspected armed robbers.

According to Hon Onwubuya, the preliminary investigation carried out by himself and divisional police officer of Uzo Uwani revealed that the man who was killed[name witheld] was a beer vendor who usually supplied liquor to many relaxation spots at   Nimbo community. On that particular date was attacked by a suspected armed robbers,who are still at large.

He disclosed that the deceased was the previous week halted by a two man gang at the same point and collected  One hundred thousand naira from him at gun point. But this time around, they decided to kill him. He expressed hope that police investigation will finally unravel the killers of the deceased,whose trade made him very  popular in Nimbo community, even though he is not native and did not reside within the community..

However, Hon Onwubuya lamented that there are still pockets of rascal grazing of cattle among some of the herdsmen. Even though, most of them presently reside in the boundaries with Kogi state, they still feed their cattle from vegetables and cassava planted by Nimbo rural farmers in distant farmlands.
