My Tribute to Ojo Maduekwe by H.E Dame Virgy Etiaba CON, Former Governor of Anambra State
“I would rather die a meaningful death than live a meaningless life”.
Corazon Aquino Nigeria has lost one of our very best as Ojo Maduekwe, a voice of compassion whose boundless energy lit up the lives of many is now gone forever.
Though he was misunderstood at times, he undoubtedly was a determined, passionate and progressive politician, who epitomised the best of humanity and proved so often the power of politics to make our country a better place.
He was a truly exceptional man whose goodness and passionate dedication to humanitarian values inspired us all. We will all miss his passion and conviction, but above all, we will miss his cheeky smile. He was struck down too soon and so, it now falls on all of our shoulders to carry on his legacies.
Ojo was filled with and fuelled by love for humanity. He was devoted to his family and was a relentless campaigner for equality, human rights and social justice. It is therefore with heart-breaking sadness but also with heartfelt solidarity that I will choose to remember Ojo.
Finally, he gave a voice to the voiceless and spoke truth to power. He exemplified the best values of our country Nigeria. His most edifying legacy must be a politics of hope not fear, respect not hate, and unity not division. Goodnight my brother.
