Anambra Police kill female robber, four others in Asaba

The Anambra Special Anti-Robbery (SARS) has shot a 5-man robbery gang in a gun duel in Asaba, Delta State.

The deceased, a woman and four men, said to be notorious in armed robbery and car snatching, were gunned down along Nnebis road in Asaba following a tip-off by the Delta State Police Command.
 
Briefing newsmen in Awkuzu, the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ali Okechukwu, said the Delta State Police Command arrested and handed over one of the suspects to the Anambra Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

He said the kingpin, who he described as the most wanted robber popularly called Obisma, on interrogation, confessed to series of armed robbery and car snatching within and outside the state.

"He opted to led operatives to Asaba, Delta State for possible arrest of his accomplices and recovery of operational weapons" he said.

Ali said the operatives were attacked by the gang members during which one of them identified as Chuma Anyichie and unidentified female were arrested with severe bullet injuries but died few minutes later at the scene.
   
According to the spokesperson, three vehicles and several ammunitions including AK47 raffle and magazines, 24 rounds of live ammunition, 2 locally made guns, 5 cartridges and charms were recovered from the gang.

He said the kingpin and one of the operatives who sustained bullet injuries during the operations are receiving treatment in a nearby hospital, while efforts were on to arrest other fleeing gang members. 

Assuring residents of the commitment of the police to rid the state of criminality, Ali called more collaboration with the police by providing useful and timely information on any security matter.
