6,000 Igbo Youths killed , 800 jailed , says Campaign for Democracy amidst protests

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Campaign for Democracy, a human rights group based in Onitsha, Anambra has protested the alleged killing of Igbo youths by security agents across the country.

The group also urged the Federal Government to release unconditionally, the national coordinator of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mr Chidiebere Onwudiwe.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday after the protest, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr Dede Uzor, also expressed concern on the non-conduct of election into Anambra Central senatorial zone.
“The protest is in respect of the recent killing of unharmed Igbo youths and the non-conduct of election in Anambra Central Senatorial zone of the state and other parts of the country.
“This organisation is not happy with the development and so, we decided to embark on protest to show the world that we want the Federal Government to look into the issues,” Uzor Said.
He urged the Federal Government to constitute a panel of inquiry into the circumstances of the alleged killings of the youth, who embark on peaceful demonstrations for the realisation of Biafra.
He also bemoaned the recent arrest and detention of the national coordinator of IPOB leader, Chidiebere Onwudiwe without charging him to court where he could defend himself.
According to him, statistics show that more than 800 Igbo youths agitating for their rights are in detention in different prisons without trial while about 6, 000 have been allegedly killed.
“Our position is that the Federal Government should either arraign or release them unconditionally, if there are no cases against them,” Uzor said.
On the non-conduct of election in Anambra Central Senatorial zone, the group urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fix a date and conduct the election.
According to him, members of the constituency are not enjoying the benefits and rights of being fairly represented at the National Assembly.
Some of the placards carried by the protesters who moved from Upper Iweka to Awka road, Onitsha, read “our sons are languishing in detention without trial” and “Release Igbo youths now, CD tells FG”.
Other placards also read “INEC please stop this evil tactics-CD,” “Please probe the killings of 6, 000 Igbo youths,” and “Who is afraid of Anambra Central Senatorial poll,” among others.
