The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) in Anambra state, says it arrested 10 females, while three vehicles were impounded in its fight against illicit drugs in the state within the last six months.
The state commander of the agency, Mr. Sule Momodu, said this yesterday at Finotel Hotels, Awka, Anambra state, during this year’s International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with its theme “Listen First”.
It was attended by state government officials, traditional rulers, principals and headmasters of schools, with their students and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
The State Commander, Momodu, who read the address of the (NDLEA) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (Rtd), said the fight against drug trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs in Nigeria was total.
In the chairman’s address, he paid tribute to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to create drug free society, adding that their sacrifices were not in vain as the fight must be won.
Speaking further, Momodu, said the 10 females arrested were among the 156 drug traffickers arrested by (NDLEA) in Anambra State between January and June, 2016.
Also, the three impounded vehicles, according to him, were those used by the suspects to transport large quantities of cannabis sativa from Delta State to Anambra.
He said a total of 922.5 kilogrammes of cannabis were impounded in the last 6 months by the agency. He also appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to help in building the rehabilitation centre he had approved.
Momodu further said that the state command would visit principals, headmasters and headmistresses, the State House of Assembly, among others organizations, to sensitize the state on the need to curb the menace of drug trafficking, while the agency, according to him, had already visited banks to sensitize them.
