Buhari's impeachment looms over freezing of Fayose's accounts, Saraki, Ekweremadu saga

Abia -based human rights activist and renowned author, Comrade Paul Njoku, has called on members of the National Assembly to immediately commence impeachment proceeding against President Muhammadu Buhari accusing him of high handedness and fragrant abuse of the constitution.

The rights activist who spoke with our correspondent yesterday in Umuahia, said that Buhari should be legally removed from power before he " plunges Nigeria into chaos and anarchy through his dictatorial leadership style".

He  cited the recent freezing of the bank account of Gov. Ayo Fayose  of Ekiti State, and the prosecution of Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu as executive impunity and meddlesomeness by Buhari " which must be checkmated before it is late".

Njoku said freezing of Fayose's account was a clear  case of breach of the constitution and infringement of the  immunity clause " as contained in section 308 of the 1999 constitution as amended which Buhari himself enjoys".

He argued that "instead of using EFCC to harass a sitting governor who is constitutionally entitled  to immunity is a danger signal to our young democracy which must not be tolerated".

" If Fayose is guilty, Buhari and EFCC should wait until 2018 when he serves  out his tenure instead of mocking our democracy", Njoku fumed.

He warned that nobody should be allowed to "toy with or take any step capable of truncating the young democracy".

His words: " I foresee anarchy looming in Nigeria. Buhari is a dictator who flouts court orders with impunity , and this poses serious threat to  our democracy".

The clinical psychologist further said that the prosecution of  Saraki, and Ekweremadu, over alleged forgery of senate rule amounted to a breach of the principles of separation of powers.

He contended that the Executive should not interfere with the business of the Legislature which is another arm of government .

Njoku wondered why the President through the Attorney  General   of the Federation should resurrect the alleged forgery suit which had earlier been dismissed by a court of competent jurisdiction.

" Buhari is only after Ekweremadu because he is vocal against herdsmen atrocities in the South East. The President is also chasing Fayose because he is the only opposition governor criticising him.

"Buhari has committed enough impeachable offenses and should be impeached without delay to save Nigeria from political turmoil.

" Are we talking about his tribalistic tendencies as manifested in the lopsided appointments he has  made and is still making in favour of his Northern kinsmen ? Or are well talking about the padded budget, flouting of court orders, or selective amnesia war against corruption which is only targeted against the opposition?"

Njoku vowed to explore other legal means to checkmate Buhari's excesses and dictatorial tendencies should the National Assembly fail to act timeously.
